The National Public iNewspapers

THE PROBLEM -

The for profit newspaper industry is shrinking, consolidating, going chapter eleven or bankrupt; 90% -  the percentage of U.S. media owned by five corporate media conglomerates; 50% -  the percentage of newsroom staff at U.S. newspapers that have been laid off over the last decade; 27% - the percentage of large newspapers that saw layoffs in 2018—and that was an improvement over the 31% that saw layoffs the year before. This is a negative development in any free society.

OBSERVATIONS & CONCLUSIONS -

The Corporation for Public Broadcasting was created on November 7, 1967, when U.S. president Lyndon B. Johnson signed the Public Broadcasting Act of 1967. The new organization initially collaborated with the National Educational Television network—which would become the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS).

National Public Radio (NPR, stylized as npr) is a privately and publicly funded American non-profit membership media organization based in Washington, D.C. NPR differs from other non-profit membership media organizations, such as AP, in that it was established by an act of Congress[2] and most of its member stations are owned by government entities (often public universities).

It serves as a national syndicator to a network of over 1,300 public radio stations in the United States. The importance of not for profit media grows as the newspapers close.

SOLUTION -

Support National Public Newspapers by being NPN USA owner, publisher-publisher for your community. Note a for profit or not for profit may be the local - community NPN owner publisher editor ( OPE ) of the iNewspaper.

RECOMMENDATION -

Have the United States Congress Charter the National Public Newspapers, now as a not for profit media syndication incorporated and launched in Florida with headquarters in Tampa, Florida. NPN USA is an iNewspaper, different in scope; whereas the main viewer and listenership of PBS and NPR who must broadcast to large audiences in the millions - in major regional sectors, four to five million for example in the Tampa Bay Region. NPN is at the other end of that spectrum, the main focus of NPN USA is CommUNITY.

NPN USA provides all news and information important to each individual NPN USA media community much like an associated press and a news syndicate only at the grass roots level - CommUNITY. Our NPN iNewspapers will support communities of approximately 50,000 to 100,000 citizens.
